Central Adelaide

  • The South Australian Museum

    The museum is home to the world's largest collection of Australian Aboriginal cultural objects. The South Australian Biodiversity Gallery focuses on the land and marine wildlife of the state, while other galleries include the Pacific Cultures, Minerals and the Ancient Egyptian Room.     Tandanya is a place to experience the contemporary and traditional Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture. You can see a range of art styles, genres and techniques. Experience a cultural presentation of the didgeridoo or dances from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander performers and hear about their heritage and their stories.     The Botanic Gardens is an oasis in the City of Adelaide. The 16-hectare garden contains stunning collections of plants including Australian natives, exotics and ornamental plants. Visit the Information Centre to find out what is happening in the Garden and which plant collections are looking their best. Free guided walking tours are also available.

    Adelaide Zoo is home to more than 1,800 animals and almost 300 species of exotic and native mammals, birds, reptiles and fish. Also now home to Wang Wang and Funi, two Giant Pandas on exchange from the People's Republic of China. Check out the website for daily animal feeds and keeper talks.     The Art Gallery of South Australia was founded in 1881 and houses one of Australia's greatest art collections. The Art Gallery itself is one of Adelaide's most beautiful buildings. Check out their website for more information.
