The genus Oreoleuciscus Warpachowski (Altai osmans) is endemic to lake basins and river systems of western Mongolia, as well as to of Altai and Tuva in Russia. The Altai osmans attracts attention in a view: (i) how this taxon is linked to other Leuciscinae; (ii) how morphology corresponds to molecular data on Oreoleuciscus, Pseudaspius, Tribiolodon, and Phoxinus, relationships, as was exemplified; and (iii) how to find a solution for an old and controversial taxonomic opinion on the status some of its representatives, e.g. O. potanini and O. humilis Warpachowski. So far, all conclusions rests primarily on morphological congruence rather than upon hard evidence of gene exchange. To address the above problems we have performed sequence analysis of the two above mentioned species of Altai osmans and analyzed combined sequence diversity using some GenBank (NCBI) data. The main outcome from data obtained is as follows: a barcoding was successful at Сo-1 used even despite very small inter-Osmans divergence, which comparable to typical within species values.
